About the Tiaki Maniototo Nursery

The Tiaki Maniototo Nursery was built in 2023 as part of the Tiaki Maniototo project, a $6 million Jobs for Nature initiative aimed at restoring the natural landscapes of the Upper Taieri region.

Given the challenging Māniototo climate and the distance to other native nurseries, there was a strong need for a local nursery in Pātearoa. Since then, demand for hardy native plants has steadily grown, and today, our nursery proudly holds over 30,000 natives adapted to thrive in this environment.

Over the course of our journey, we've had a variety of skilled individuals contribute to the success of our nursery. Currently, our core team of four part time staff work hard to cultivate hardy plants. Although we may be smaller than some, our plants are exceptionally resilient, ensuring they thrive in even the toughest environments.
